If you are experiencing a specific pain only after your sports activity or gym session, then yes, it would be good for you to do so we can assess what the actual issue is, as your body needs to be loaded to experience the discomfort. On the other hand, loading the body before a treatment already puts your tissue into an inflammatory state and could make the treatment less effective as you may experience pain and discomfort with any external stimulation.

At Melbourne Massage and Treatment, there is a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel your appointment before 24 hours, you will not be charged. Cancellations within less than 24 hours are charged 50%. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me privately.

Pain post-injury can last 24 h to 72 h. That's the inflammatory response timing. If the pain does not settle past the 72 hours, then is good to come to see me, and we can assess the presentation. That said, if during the initial 72 h the pain, is above your 7/10 pain scale (0= no pain / 10 = worst pain ever), you may want to come and see me asap, or even seek medical advice from your GP, especially if the skin is damaged, or presenting discolouration.

If you are heading for a surgery, it would be best to do some MLD before the surgery, and definitely after the surgery. Most important that either before or after no sign of infections are present. So the post-surgery MLD session, is safer to do it after you finish the antibiotic cure.

The injury recovery time is multi-factorial, and we can only look at estimations based on scientific research and data and can't give a set date. That said, a soft tissue injury, like a muscle tear, can take 8 to 12 weeks to recover fully, whereas tendinopathy or ligament injuries can go from 3 months to 1 year for a full recovery; it depends on the severity of the presentation again and other factors.
