Why Exercising?

We always hear that exercises are good for us, but how do they really work?
It is now time to understand how movement therapy, with and without load, can improve your lifestyle and general health. The body and brain were not designed for a sedentary life. Indeed, movement, specifically under load, can stimulate the body to strengthen and function better. In fact, exercises stimulate tissue regeneration, especially if under load.
Therefore, when you load a weight along your movement, the body initiates a regeneration process that leaves you with stronger tissues and a better body-mind set, which enriches a positive attitude and a happier life.

Exercises Rehabilitation Program

At Melbourne Massage and Treatment, Giovanni, would create an exercises program tailored to your needs. Every exercises program would be delivered to meet your goal and necessity, and it would be a progress of exercises type including, isometric, strengthening, rehabilitation and mobility exercises and more… Giovanni would ensure your safety and would give you a detailed guide on how to deliver the movement therapy at your own home or gym settings. Exercises program are part of a Treatment Plan and it would follow any Myotherapy treatment.

Why load the body with weight when doing exercise?

Let’s step back for an instant, back to when you were a baby, to understand how you became capable of standing up on your legs and walking. We have no memory of those days, but we all know that a baby would take a couple of years to stand up and start walking. Before that stage, they would spend their days learning how to roll, then cowling, and then attempting an erected standing position. As you may understand by now, this breakdown is a step-by-step approach to getting used to the gravity force applied to the human body weight, which was not experienced in the womb. In fact, that gravity force applied to the human body allows the bond to get firmer, the muscles to get stronger and gives them the ability to stand up. Now, apply this principle to an adult body that starts degenerating by losing muscle mass or bone mass as it stops growing (early 20s). To stop and reverse this degenerative process, we have to load our body with weight, stimulating mechanic-transduction activity that leads to soft and hard tissue being regenerated.

How long before I can get better after an injury?

Time is a crucial factor for seeing some improvement in an exercise program.

Scientific studies have shown that it typically takes 6 to 8 weeks to improve body strength and rehabilitate an injury. This is based on an exercise program that is applied a minimum of 3 days a week and no more than 5 days a week.

This estimation is based on injuries that do not involve surgery or immobilization (e.g., a bone fracture).

What are going to be like those 6 to 8 weeks?

Each week of the 6-week rehabilitation plan will bring new challenges and opportunities for progress. We will gradually increase the load, change the type of exercises, and target different tissues, ensuring a comprehensive and effective recovery.

Following an injury, such as a muscle tear or tendinopathy, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the damaged tissue and rule out any red flags that may require immediate medical attention. This crucial process is part of a 60-minute Initial Myotherapy session, designed to assess the extent of the injury and plan the most effective rehabilitation strategy.Graph that explain why you should not stop exercising when you don't feel pain anymore post inury

After that, for the first week or so, we are going to load the damaged tissue and the surrounding tissues with Isometric exercises.

These isometric exercises serve a dual purpose. Firstly, they enable the central nervous system to engage the damaged tissue, helping to rebuild confidence in its use post-injury. Secondly, they are an effective tool for increasing blood flow to the affected area, which is crucial for healing a body injury.

Past this phase, we are going to start loading the tissue with eccentric and concentric exercises, always with load or resistance. Initially, based on the type of injury and the tissue involved, as per the body area itself, the load would be a light one. Then, from that load, we would increase it week by week until bringing the tissue back to a functional level.

It is worth noting that the functional level varies depending on age, gender, and pre-injury physical activity.

For the last part of the rehabilitation, we will load not only the tissue involved in the injury but also the surrounding structure. To do so, we are going to look into plyometrics exercises. In short, plyometric exercises are a series of exercises that involve load, repetitive movement, and spring action. They are essential to ensure that the tendons of the muscle involved in the injury or in the immobility post-injury are stimulated to return to everyday functionality.

How do we keep track of the progress?

Rehabilitating an injury or developing your range of motion, mobility, and strength takes time; it is a process that can be quantified with numbers, and personal confidence in mastering new steps.
Along his training, Giovanni for Melbourne Massage and Treatment, did learn the use of “The MATâ„¢” – Movement Assessment Tool.
The MATâ„¢ is just what you need to monitor improvement in your movements during sessions. Because of its unique design, it can carry out any sort of test a Myotherapy needs and help point out the area that needs further strength and treatment.
With this, Giovanni will be able to utilize a muscle strength scale, ‘The MAT Muscle Meter â„¢’ to monitor such clients’ strength into sports activities or competitions.

How long last a rehabilitation exercise session?

Rehabilitation exercise sessions are available for 30, 45 and 60-minute slots.

Giovanni would provide you with a guide to what exercises are better to be delivered, the frequency throughout the week, and what to expect week by week.

You would not need to attend a three-days-a-week program with Giovanni, even though it is highly recommended for a successful recovery to attend a weekly session, that at least for the first 3 to 4 weeks from the initial consultation, in order to keep a close eye on your progress and what adjustments are needed to the exercise program or to the execution of the exercises.

You can then complete a two-day exercise program at your home or gym, as long as you use a safe setup and follow the instructions given.

During the early phase of recovery, hands-on treatment is an integral part of our services. These sessions, which last at least 60 or 45 minutes, are designed to provide you with the necessary physical support and guidance.

Giovanni will provide you with a comprehensive step-by-step guide program in .pdf or video format. This resource is designed to ensure that you can continue your exercises effectively, even when you’re not at the studio.

You can also purchase a resistance bend, open length, or loop one at Melbourne Massage and Treatment Studio.

Treatment Plan

Giovanni offers a Treatment Plan package to help you further along the rehabilitation process. The plan includes five pay-up front sessions with a 10% discount. It is available for returning clients only who want to work on a specific presentation throughout the upcoming eight weeks. This time frame allows you to space out the sessions and be followed along the full recovery process.
